Pet-Set Party for P.A.W.S.

Tucked behind the University of Connecticut in Stamford you’ll find Murphy’s Townhouse Café, a quiet local bar on the corner of Franklin and North. On June 25, 2006, Murphy’s who has seen their share of Huskies bellying up to their bar, literally went to the Dogs. It was the social event of the month as the timeless Stamford tavern hosted the first ever Pet-Set Dog Friendly Cocktail Party.

The Pet-Set Cocktail Party attracted over 55 Pet-Set dog owners who just happened to bring along their four legged friends. The proceeds benefited the Pet Animal Welfare Society, known as P.A.W.S., a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless animals and finding them new homes.

Heather Scutti of 1000 Licks Gourmet Dog Treats organized the event. The proceeds from raffles along with a silent auction, gave the nights receipts a boost. “We raised close to $1000 for the P.A.W.S. foundation, but most importantly we laid the groundwork for more events just like this one and are already planning a bigger and better version for the end of September,” said Scutti.

The very first Pet-Set big event didn’t lack for personalities and publicity. Congressman Chris Shays was there along with Tokyo News-Channel 12 which provided the bright lights and helped create the buzz.

“As Co-Chair of the Friends of Animals Caucus and advocate for animal welfare at the federal level, I loved attending the Pet-Set Dog Friendly party and seeing people in the community working hard to find pets homes in our area,” said Congressman Christopher Shays. “They were putting their love for animals into action, and I commend them for it. P.A.W.S. is a wonderful organization and I am pleased to support it.”

Photographer Bob Capazzo of Greenwich Magazine was there to take professional photo shots of the canines in attendance and Shure Pet Products had a display of dog shampoos, treats, and beds. But the big hit of the day was when Heather Scutti opened up the first tub of 1000 Licks Premium Dog Ice Cream, a treat that promises to pack the dogs in again in September so that P.A.W.S. can do more rescuing and resettling of all those lovable pooches in need.
