Pet Fashion Week NY is Here!

The Big Apple, New York – Pet Fashion Week New York was held for the first time on August 19th and 20th, 2006, and was hosted by Mario DiFante and Alexa Cach. The event was designed to cater to the way that today’s modern pets live their lives. This event featured a tradeshow with over 130 national and international exhibitors, a number of design awards, and runway shows, and it attracted representatives from 20 countries spread across 5 continents.

In addition to the tradeshow, twenty-eight designers put on a runway show in which they presented matching dog and human couture designs. The show was extremely entertaining for the audience. Jonathan Peters, for Les Poochs, designed a dress in black and red that was worn during the opening of the show. There was a built-in pocket on each side of the gown, and inside of them were two miniature dogs sleeping soundly. Other designs that were showcased on the runway included a wedding gown with an 8-foot train worn on a black poodle by Emma Rose Design, a Las Vegas showgirl inspired line by Gamboa, and innovative and intricately embellished dog coat designs by E.& E. Hallstrom. Pink Polka Dog was responsible for designing the 50’s style dress with frosted donut hats for both the dog and the owner. The display of the most expensive dog collar in the world, a diamond dog collar designed by Bark Avenue Jewelers that cost $250,000, was one of the highlights of the show. Another highlight was the launch of Randolph Duke’s pet line, which was a collaborative effort between the renowned fashion designer and Bonesoir Couture.

In light of the fact that the organizers of Pet Fashion Week wished to fulfill the event’s mandate of serving as a stage for designers, manufacturers, distributors, and artists, they presented two design awards. The inaugural competition for this award, which was sponsored by Lands’ End and held at major fashion universities, pitted six student designers against one another on the catwalk for the chance to win a prize of $5,000 and gain exposure in the fashion industry. David Napoli, who is currently enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology, is the one who presented the award. He did so on the basis of the conceptual consistency of his line Konichiwa Bitches, which is inspired by Japanese street fashion.

Kimmy Nguyen of DiscoLulu emerged victorious in the competition for the Media Choice Award, which was sponsored by Swarovski. Kimmy was one of eleven designers who were contending for a promotional award and a resale permit that would allow them to purchase Swarovski Crystals at a wholesale price for the next three years. The design that was chosen as the winner featured a cameo that was intricately carved and set on a collar that was encrusted with Swarovski crystals. It also featured a sparkling crystal mesh dog skirt that was belted in pink.

The product offering of the tradeshow was designed around the requirements of the contemporary dog and included the well-known perfume line, elegant dog bedding, canine jewelry, bowls, and the most recent pet apparel that has become available on the market.
