The Dog Leg Golf Classic a Huge Success!

The Dog Leg Golf Classic held September 29th was a huge success. The golf tournament, organized by Planet Bark to benefit Our Companions Animal Sanctuary, was held at the Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield.

The inaugural tournament will be the first of many. The day offered not only an excellent round of golf for 100 golfers, but also a silent auction, raffles and a buffet barbeque dinner.

The event was such a success, bringing in a total of over $12,000 to benefit Our Companions, a nonprofit organization that believes no pet should ever be homeless. Our Companions believes that “every pet is a beautiful, blessed creature who deserves life and love.” Their goal is to offer Connecticut’s first Pet Resource Center. The center will include a domestic animal sanctuary on 43 acres of generously donated land in Ashford. Once complete the center will include a spay/neuter clinic, low-cost dog training center, community center, pet assisted therapy programs, dog park, hiking trails and reflection gardens.

The most important aspect of the sanctuary is that every animal will be saved from destruction and receive special care in an open and loving environment. Once healed, they’ll become excellent candidates for adoption into loving, permanent homes. The sanctuary, already undergoing the first phase of construction, is an ongoing project that requires a lot of community support.

Myra Wahl of Planet Bark in West Hartford is a huge supporter of the sanctuary and anxiously awaits the completion of the unique safe haven for homeless pets. That is why she offered to help organize the first of many golf tournaments to benefit the cause.

Planet Bark is a modern doggy daycare and boarding facility, fully climate-controlled for the comfort of your dog. They even offer luxurious suites and condos for that “Bed and Biscuit” style boarding.

Myra’s love for animals inspired her to open the cageless facility, which allows dogs to socialize, exercise and board in an environment which promotes a positive well-being. The inviting facility makes pet owners feel secure and comfortable leaving their dog in their care, while away on business or pleasure, or just for the day.

Myra’s love for animals inspired her to help with homeless animals and get involved with Our Companions fundraising. She knows the impact the sanctuary will have on the well being of homeless pets, and hopes to raise awareness of the need for this facility.
